Last weekend our stake had a service project at a nearby park, Kamiak Butte County Park. We were helping to clean the park by raking the pine needles from the grass areas and the playground.
Tim had Camilla in the Baby Bjorn carrier while he raked so I could keep a better eye on Arthur and chase after him. He played at the playground for a bit before he started asking to help. So we went to where Tim was at and Arthur started helping rake. Although, most of his raking was pushing the pine needles around and undoing the work that had just been done. It was pretty funny to watch because he truly thought he was helping. He was so proud of himself for his hard work. The stake then treated us all to a lunch of hamburgers.
After we had our fill we decided to take a hike on their trail in the park. Since it was about nap time for both kids we made the decision to take the shorter route to the top and go back down the way we would go up. Well somehow we ended up going left instead of right and ended up on the trail to make the whole loop. By the time we figured this out we figured we might as well just keep going and enjoy the time as a family. It was a perfect day to go on a hike as it was warm but overcast so it wasn't hot. There was a fair bit of wind but it wasn't too bad until we got to the summit.
The hike was beautiful and both Arthur and Camilla did great. In fact, Arthur even hiked a good amount all by himself. Our best guess is that he walked two miles at least of the whole three and a half miles. He hardly complained and just kept plugging along. He was carried by me a couple of times at the very beginning and then when he started getting really tired. For the most part though, Tim carried him when he wanted to be. He loved being on Tim's shoulders until he became really tired at which point he snuggled into Tim and fell asleep within a matter of minutes. This was probably about a half-mile or so from the summit. Tim carried him from that point all the way back to the bottom. It was a good ways for Tim to carry our little boy. Camilla also fell asleep for part of the hike but woke up just before the summit, most likely because of the wind.
Great family pics! Who took them -- an accomodating bear?
